goodgroove I'm 37 years old and I live in Sardinia (second island of Italy). I was a DJ (amateur, not professional) from 1979 to 1982. In the following years I have taken one another road. Currently my job is a doctor in a hospital. (It seems incredible!). The most beautiful things of my life: my daughter, my wife and... my collection of old disco & funk! Great part of the music that I haven't in vinyl I have found it in internet like lucignolo64 (Napster, Audiognome, WinMx). Most of these has been given me by two great Italian friends: Disco-funky/discomix2/mirquelinoss and _giannino. Another great friends are dad2312 (from France) and bomba70 (from Italy). |

_giannino I'm 38 years old and I live in Pistoia a city near Florence (Tuscany). I was a DJ from 1984 to 1987 in the only big disco in my city. My DJ idol of these years was RICCARDO CIONI . Thanks him I know the DISCO and especially the FUNKY MUSIC. DISCO & FUNKY MUSIC are the first passion of my life but I like all the music from 1968 to 1980 and also Italian Music. I Have a big vinyl and cd collection of all kind of music. I was happy married with a daughter. |

dj_coolcut 33 years old, I live in Salerno (Italy) a sunny and seaside city. I was DJ from 1984 till 1997, but I decided it many years before!! When I was child I listened to all passed handy and the first "serious" record I bought was Zodiac by Roberta Kelly in 1977!! The following year I started buying also 12" (the first one was One for you...by La Bionda). Something changed in 1987 when the house music exploded all over the world...that new sound excited me, but quickly I realized, together with the growth of the rare groove phenomenon in U.K., what hid behind that music...So in 1992, always more bored by current music (too much techno!!), I changed my style and I began to play disco, rare groove, black, jazz and other. I've been collecting vinyl records since 1993 and here there's a photo with just a part of these... I love life, people, music, internet, art, culture, opening my mind to the world but...all these things are always after the GIRLS!! |

Pelekao DJ Ciao sono Paolo, sono nato il 2 settembre 1962 a Roma e sono agente di assicurazioni da ormai 12 anni. Ho sempre avuto la passione per la musica, soprattutto ascoltarla, e all'età di 3 anni riconoscevo i titoli, tra diverse decine di dischi, semplicemente toccandoli con le dita, fra lo stupore delle mie zie che spesso invitavano le loro amiche incredule. All'età di 12 anni, complice un mio cugino che strimpellava il piano e grazie alla paghetta settimanale elargita da mio padre, ho iniziato ad acquistare i miei primi dischi a 45 giri (il primo fu Never Can Say Goodbye di Gloria Gaynor) e quattro anni dopo, grazie ad un mio amico elettrotecnico iniziai a sbizzarrirmi su un mixer "casereccio" da lui creato. Pian piano la passione si tramutò in lavoro e all'età di 18 anni, appena finita la maturità ho iniziato la mia breve carriera dapprima per feste private, poi lavorando, grazie alle conoscenze di alcuni noti DJ romani dell'epoca, dapprima presso la Discoteca "2 Cigni" di Ronciglione (all'epoca la più grande del Lazio), quindi girovagando per alcune note discoteche della mia regione e di Roma sotto lo pseudonimo di Paco. Ho smesso di lavorare in discoteca nel 1985, poiché la musica forte mi stava creando problemi all'udito e, contemporaneamente, ho iniziato a svolgere il mio attuale lavoro, ma ogni tanto venivo chiamato, fino a pochi anni fa, per le serate in tema anni 70. Ancora oggi la mia passione per la disco è molto forte e continuo ad acquistare (spesso a caro prezzo) i mitici vinili! |

I like disco (only 70s and early 80s), funk (James Brown rulz), jazz (Dizzy Gillespie), blues (John Lee Hooker), soul (mainly 60s). For me the disco music is mood, party mood, itching for hustle with the girls in the twilight of the night ... no one can be sad or stand still with disco music ... CarlyDJ I was born in 1961 and my real name is Carlos. Back in Puerto Rico, where I'm originally from, my close friends and family shorten my name and simply call me Carly. Very late in life I discovered that the nick name is actually a girl's name, so what the heck. I guess it just makes things a little more interesting. I've always told people that the only reason I didn't become a professional DJ was because I like to sleep when it's dark outside. I have on occasions been a radio DJ and did perform live a couple of times at parties when I was a teenager. Otherwise, I have collected and mixed dance music since the late 70s. In 1993, I moved to Bloomington, IN and away from my vinyl collection. A few years later I couldn't stand it anymore and made a trip to load all that heavy stuff and bring it back with me. It was a timely move, though. I had just started to digitize my music into MP3 files when I discovered AG. It has been great because now I can just look for the titles I have and if I find a suitable version, I don't have to do the work myself. If the song is not there, I digitize it and share it like we all do. It's perfect! So what do I do when not DJ mixing for pleasure? I'm an Instructional Technologist and I try to help college professors make good use of technology for the purpose of teaching and managing their workloads. I lived in Belgium from 92 till 2000 and worked in a studio recording and house label. Back in France end 2000 I start making DiscoHouse productions for Yellow Prod. records owned by DJ Yellow & Bob Sinclar. Now my best thing on the internet is the GG group for helping me having these wonderful rare disco tracks to give me lodz of inspiration for my songs!! flagio I'm a 33 year old product of The Netherlands and I'm living in Dordrecht with my wife and 5 year old daughter. I used to be a amateur Radio-DJ from 1985 to 1988, but I was collecting dance music from 1983. Through this years, I grew up with Italo Disco which is still one of my favorite styles of music, especially the early years (until 1983/84). My nickname 'flagio' on AG is taken from 'Mr. Flagio' who represents my definition of Italo with his song 'Take A Chance'. Following (and buying) all kinds of Dance (Disco, Funk, Electro). I love the early House, Acid and Detroit Techno music. And now, after 10 somewhat silent years, I'm back in music! Loving the new (Dutch)-Disco/Electro style (Parallax Corporation, Legowelt, I-f), the beautiful Detroit Electro/Techno (Daniel Wang, Morgan Geist, Metro Area) and hunting for those rare, old and funky tunes... |

Oggi faccio l'agente di commercio, mentre nei primi anni '80 sono stato un (molto scarso) DJ dilettante che, come molti all'epoca, si divertiva e cercava di far divertire gli amici durante le feste mixando musica Disco e Funky, ed ora sono felice di aver trovato un punto di riferimento per chi ha piacere, tramite la rete, di rinverdire i vecchi tempi, quando avevamo tutti qualche capello in più...... Il "nick name" don-fabio trae origine dal fatto che, all'epoca ero letteralmente impazzito per "Got To Have Loving" di Don Ray. Non ho una grandissima collezione di dischi in vinile, ma grazie ad internet ho messo insieme una discreta raccolta di cd e files mp3 di musica disco e funky.Sono single. A tutt'oggi ho una connessione a 56k quando mi collego da casa (abbastanza lenta) mentre in ufficio ho una (molto migliore) connessione HDSL, che mi sta dando grandi soddisfazioni nella navigazione. SL-1200MK2 Hi there, my nickname is SL-1200MK2 as you may know, SL-1200MK2 is a legendary Technics turntable for disc-jockeys around the world, and there is something about this piece of equipment that brings nostalgia in me along with disco music. I am 39yrs old, and I fell in love with disco music at the very begining in the mid 70's at high school, especially on friday nights dancing to Van McCoy's hustle, Tina Charles' I love to love, and so much more. Eventually, disco rollerskate fever caught up in north america in late 70's where I started working part time as disco DJ, working behind the turntables was the time of my life. Budgets were great, we used amoung the best equipment, brand new Technics SL-1500MK2 digital led pitch controled turntables, Yamaha mixboard, etc etc. Today, I have about 1000 12inches vinyls from all over the world, mostly disco from 77-83. So I don't feel guilty collecting some disco MP3's from AG I don't believe I have hurt the music industry. There is something about disco music that will always stick to me for ever. |
ManhattanDJ I am 46 years old and started getting into Disco in 1972 when I was 16. I started collecting all the music I could find and hung out in the DJ's booth to find music to buy. By 1974 I had over 1000 records and started DJing in clubs in New York. In 1982 I retired from DJing, got married and devoted myself full time to my family. Having over 8000 records I needed a whole room to store my collection and so, after a while started selling and giving away all my vinyl. After it was all gone I realized I had made a terrible mistake. 1984 - 1999 was music limbo for me. I felt defeated. A few years ago I discovered Napster, WinMX and now AG and have been on a crusade to replenish my collection ever since. So far I have filled up an entire 40 Gig HD and part of a 60 Gig with just music. I spend so much time researching and looking for rare forgotten tracks, I think my wife is close to divorcing me! This is my obsession. This is my love. I mainly collect from the 70's but have many House, Techno and other music as well. I have to say Thank you to all those who never let their love for Disco die and who have ripped most of their vinyl - All of you on AG, Bernie of discomusic.com, Disco A-Z, etc. You have given me back my life! nikis- I'm 30 (oh, and I didn't realized). I live in Tenerife, in Canary Islands in Spain. I work in a public TV Channel here and I'm a realizer. I was a DJ in the 80's and I was specialized in soul, jazz, funk, disco, and more. My other passion is electronic music, I love analog synthesizers and like programming all what I get. (Digital too). I think it's this way because of sound of classic funky music. Moogs, prophets, yamahas (cs80), Jupiters, I got mad. I think all members of this group and others like this in AG have been sent by God to rescue me from hardcore style that got me in a bad dream. Just one thing, I'm happy to know you all. MrFunky66 Ho 35 anni (1966) e vivo in provincia di Roma. Sono sposato dal 1999 e non ho ancora figli. Non sono mai stato un DJ, ma negli anni tra il 1978 e il 1983 il mio principale divertimento e dei miei amici era unicamente incentrato sulla musica, non una musica qualsiasi ma la stessa musica che noi oggi cerchiamo di tenere ancora in vita e che ci trasmette, credo a noi tutti gli stessi sentimenti ed emozioni che ci trasmetteva a quei tempi. Io ed i miei amici organizzavamo feste da ballo in continuazione, ogni settimana una festa, e le nostre feste raccoglievano sempre un sacco di gente che puntualmente, sulle note della nostra musica, si divertiva oltremodo, mentre noi eravamo lì, dietro giradischi e mixer a mixare la nostra musica nell'entusiasmo più assoluto. Personalmente devo dire che con il passare degli anni non sono riuscito ad adeguarmi al progresso musicale, e più passa il tempo più mi rendo conto che la musica attuale fa proprio schifo. Sono molto contento di aver trovato attraverso Audiogalaxy un gruppo di gente che probabilmente la pensa come me ed è colta dalla stessa passione. In realtà conosco e scambio musica su Audiogalaxy da poco tempo; in precedenza la mia attività di music sharing era totalmente incentrata su WinMX sulla cui piattaforma mi appoggiavo con l'ID "MrFunky" e che comunque uso tuttora. Il mio archivio musicale proviene principalmente dalla rete ma ho anche una discreta quantità di CD acquistati da un negozio specializzato qui a Roma che li importa direttamente dalla UNIDISC Music Inc. in Canada, la cui casa discografica da qualche anno sta rimasterizzando i prodotti un tempo editati da importanti Label come Solar Records, Casablanca Records, WestEnd Records, Prelude Records ed altre. Dallo stesso negozio ho acquisito diversi prodotti provenienti dalla Full Time Production altra etichetta di spicco per le sue produzioni. Tra le mie poche passioni trovano posto, oltre ovviamente alla musica, l'Alta Fedeltà e l'elettronica, il computer ed internet, e tra gli sport lo Sci che amo tantissimo.
